Cal State San Marcos Student Exhibit Highlights Process of Making Art

Students from California State University San Marcos will host the Fall 2005 Visual and Performing Arts Department Process Event, 5 to 8 p.m., Friday, Dec. 9, in the university’s Arts Building.  The event is free and open to the public.

This experimental group collaboration combines various media: video, audio, visual art and performance. Students participating in this exhibit are enrolled in a course focusing on the process of art making, with a special focus on interdisciplinary/multimedia.  The final exam for the class is not a traditional test but a successful exhibition—planned, hosted and run by students—comprised entirely of student work.

Projects will encompass many forms of art from the Visual and Performing Arts Department’s area of study, including visual art, arts and technology, music, dance, art education and theatre.  The show will include live music, multimedia sculpture, installations, 2-D art and interactive performance works.  The pieces have been developed around the following set themes: identity, material and metaphor, history and memory, community involvement and intervention.  From these ideas students have created unique visions of what those themes represent.
