WHAT: The North County AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) Student Leadership Conference will be held again this year at California State University San Marcos. Approximately 200 AVID students from 25 middle and high schools throughout northern San Diego County will be on campus to attend workshops about college preparation and leadership.
WHEN: Friday, November 3, 2006 9 a.m.-1:30 p.m.
WHERE: Cal State San Marcos, 333 S. Twin Oaks Valley Road, San Marcos.
Opening session will take place in Arts Building, Room 240 (The lecture hall on the second floor of the Arts Building).
WHO: The conference is free to students who pre-registered with the AVID coordinators at their schools.
In 1980, Mary Catherine Swanson developed AVID, a secondary school program that prepares underachieving students for four-year college entry as a response to court ordered integration in the San Diego Unified School District. More than 95 percent of AVID students enroll in college.
