The first “Because I Care 5K Run/Walk” will be held at California State University San Marcos on Sunday, October 8. The event will raise awareness for individuals who provide care to aging family members suffering from Alzheimer’s disease, dementia, and other disabilities. The fund raiser will also support the Fourth Annual Cal State San Marcos Alzheimer’s and Family Caregiver Resource Fair, a free forum for family caregivers to obtain the information they need to care for family member affected by these illnesses.
The 5K Race will start at 7:30 a.m. and the 5K Walk will start at 7:35 a.m. Registration fees for the 5K Run/Walk are $25 until October 4 and $30 for onsite registration. To pre-register for the 5K Run/Walk visit www.csusm.edu//psychology// and click on the Active.com link. Online registration closes at 11:59 p.m. October 4. Onsite registration and bib/chip pick-up will be held Saturday, October 7 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, October 8 from 6 a.m. to 7 a.m. at the M. Gordon Clarke Field House located on the corner of Barham Drive in San Marcos.
All proceeds from the Run/Walk go to support the Alzheimer’s and Family Caregiver Resource Fair and other activities that will help citizens in need and the North San Diego County families who care for them. Following the 5K Run/Walk on Sunday, October 8, the fourth annual Cal State San Marcos Alzheimer’s Disease Caregiver Fair will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the M. Gordon Clarke Field House. This event will highlight information on aging-related and caregiver services available in San Diego County. Agencies will have printed materials for distribution in English and Spanish.
