Launch New Graduate Program in History

Cal State San Marcos to Launch New Graduate Program in History

The Department of History at California State University San Marcos will launch an innovative, new graduate history degree next fall that combines advanced historical studies with media and technology skills as applied to the research, presentation, and preservation of history – a master of arts program with an emphasis in digital history.

“This is the first master’s degree in the nation and the only history program outside of the east coast dedicated to educating students in history and applied multimedia techniques,” says Professor Jill Watts, Director of Graduate Studies.  “Computers and technology have become essential tools for historians so it is important we educate using the technological advances that are revolutionizing the field.”

The new program will allow students to pursue a traditional master of arts degree in history while gaining experience in using new technological advances that are revolutionizing the field. Graduates will be prepared for a variety of post-graduate objectives including:  doctoral education; community college and post-credential teaching; public history employment (museums, historical societies, and archives); careers in media and journalism; urban planning; governmental jobs; and a host of other possibilities both in the public and private sectors.

Deadline for admission is March 16. For more information, call the History Department at 760-750-4152, or visit the web at www.csusm.edu/jwatts/History%20MA/grad%20program2.htm.
