JACKSON NAMED ASSOCIATE VICE PRESIDENT FOR COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT
Jan Jackson has been named associate vice president for community engagement. Jackson will continue in her previous positions as Dean of Extended Studies and University Advocate for Community Engagement and Partnerships.
In her new role, Jackson will be the university’s point person for the coordination and communication of the institution’s various community-based initiatives and partnerships. She also will ensure articulations and collaboration across divisions and among engaged campus entities.
“I am very pleased to have the opportunity to expand my responsibilities,” said Jackson. “I know that our community and regional partnerships will continue to grow as we uphold our mission to provide an exceptional education to people of all backgrounds, ages and abilities.”
During the past two years, Jackson has built the foundation from which a formal and institutionalized community engagement effort can now be launched. Her further efforts will move the university to be the region’s driving force in partnering to meet community needs. Jackson’s talents as an organizer and as a leader will expand community outreach and visibility through the continued growth of its Chamber Champion program, enhanced partnerships with other community organizations and an increase in activities that support its Carnegie Community Engagement Classification.
