CAL STATE SAN MARCOS ACTIVATES EMERGENCY NOTIFICATION SYSTEM

The campus-wide emergency notification system for California State University San Marcos was officially activated today, Monday, Nov. 5.  MIR3 IN (Intelligent Notification™) is an off-site system which will immediately contact all students, staff and faculty members who register with the system. Notifications will only occur during an emergency and the system is capable of utilizing multiple devices for delivery.

“Ever since the Virginia Tech tragedy, we have been pursuing the purchase of a reliable system that would provide emergency notification to our campus community. We selected MIR3 because of its capabilities and its proven record with clients such as the U.S. Air Force and Red Cross,” said Dean Manship, CSUSM Emergency Manager. "This powerful notification system will enable our University Police Department to inform the campus community when a time sensitive emergency situation is occurring. Having the ability to communicate with students, faculty, and staff in a matter of seconds through multiple devices, increases the safety of our campus and ultimately may very well save lives."

The $15,000-a-year system will be able to alert the campus community of safety and security related incidents, including campus closures due to inclement weather, natural disasters and other security issues, and provide advisories to the campus community as the event unfolds. It will also alert campus security, police, fire and emergency services automatically.

CSUSM students and employees will self-register online, supplying the system with their desired notification information in case of emergency, including cell numbers, home numbers, SMS (text messaging), etc. Through an online process, the university community will be able to update their own secure file to keep the information current.
